The art history taught in US colleges is full of artworks created by predominately white European artists. These works are held in the highest regard. One of the major problems with this art history is the obvious lack of diversity.
In response, I have taken photographs from books of paintings by these accepted masters of the art world and made paper beads. Each bead is my recreation of an art history that originally did not include people of color. To my surprise, through my research, I discovered the media I chose of crocheting has its origins among people of color; Arabian, South American, and Asian. The hand-crocheted tapestry honors all the people not included.
